More and more municipalities are recognizing the value of providing services via broadband networks. Services aimed at improving tourism, employment services or education can help foster economic development and attract needed investment by business. Broadband networks can also assists with mission-critical areas such as enhanced public safety or emergency response. Yet governments are often hampered by the cost of network build-out or the complex management and maintenance of such deployments.

LastMile Communications offers municipalities a viable alternative to delivering services over broadband. Our solution is a node-based information system that creates wireless networks within fixed geographical locations, such as a town center, office park, university or seaport. Through Wi-Fi and other wireless technologies, the node stores information locally allowing faster access to information than with other mobile networks. Nodes are inexpensive to own and operate, and may be attached to any fixed point, such as a wall, street side furniture or bus shelter.
