Tim Crocker
Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder

Tim CrockerAs co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Tim brings a wealth of scientific, engineering and business expertise to LastMile Communications.

Tim graduated from Bristol University in Physics in 1974, going first into oil exploration, and then mainstream ‘big company’ electronic design. In 1978 he returned to academic life at the UK ‘Institute of Oceanographic Sciences’, being credited as sole researcher producing the first working ship-borne ‘Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler’, and a seminal published paper on the work that set out all the principles for what is now a mainstream ocean research tool. This work was at the forefront of digital signal processing at the time, giving him a strong background at a theoretical level that now plays strongly into the work of LMC in wireless digital communications. However he preferred commercial life, returning initially in a sales role in the geophysics industry.

Since then he was Chief Engineer at Valeport Ltd, and started setting up his own business, Scimar Engineering Ltd in 1987, and then the 3DI companies with others. Working with Geotek Ltd, Scimar was involved with provision of many ocean science systems, including deep-water Gamma spectrometers for the IAEA, and acoustic equipment for universities and oil companies around the world. He has received a number of DTI SMART R&D awards and several granted patents in very different technologies, including a fundamental design for electrical power conversion for Green energy and electric vehicles, which is just about to be launched into the market. He is the principal author of the granted LMC patent, with three more in application, and has another three in draft.
